A New Preservation Project is Underway!
We have partnered with the Forest Hills Gardens Corporation on an important preservation project that’s been in the planning stages for more than a year.
Many of the original blueprints for Garden homes—beautiful pieces of our neighborhood’s history—are stored in the Gardens Corp offices. These documents are delicate and need special care to ensure they last. To protect them for generations to come, the Foundation is helping to inventory and digitize the entire collection. This means our historic blueprints will be safely preserved and much easier to access in the future.
What makes this project even more special is that one of our very own Board members, Annemarie van Roessel, has generously volunteered her time and expertise to lead the effort. Annemarie is a professional archivist and curator at the New York Public Library and has built an impressive career at institutions such as Columbia University’s Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library and The Art Institute of Chicago. With studies at Wellesley College, the University of Chicago, and The Pratt Institute, she brings extraordinary knowledge to this work.
We couldn’t be prouder—or more grateful—to have Annemarie guiding this project. Her dedication ensures that an important part of our community’s story will be preserved with the care it deserves.
This is a meaningful moment for the Foundation, the Gardens Corp, and everyone who loves the history of Forest Hills Gardens. We can’t wait to share more updates as the project continues!
