FHGF Celebrates the 200th Anniversary of Frederick Law Olmsted’s Birthday

FLO passed down his design principles to his son, FLO Jr, who designed the layout of Forest Hills Gardens.  Much of the quality of life we enjoy now is a direct result of the Olmsted philosophy; particularly the sweeping curves of our streets, substantial green curb plots and assortment of parks.

On Sunday, April 24th the FHG Foundation had a presentation featuring Justin Martin, noted author of “Genius of Place, the Life of Frederick Law Olmsted” about the life of FLO and what FLO passed on to FLO Jr.

Following that presentation was video that the FHG Foundation created to demonstrate the long-term impact the Olmsted family had on the Gardens, followed by a slide show showing Forest Hills Gardens from above, with the contrast to the surrounding area of Forest Hills.

The event ended with a birthday toast to FLO’s 200th birth anniversary, which is April 26th.
